About Ampilatwatja Health Centre
Ampilatwatja Health Centre (AHC) is a community-controlled health service located in the Northern Territory, approximately 350km northeast of Alice Springs. Serving the community of Ampilatwatja and two nearby outstations, AHC delivers holistic, culturally respectful care to over 650 residents. The Centre operates under strong governance from local traditional owners, with an experienced clinical team comprising General Practitioners, Remote Area Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and support staff. About the Opportunity
We're looking for Remote Area Nurses who thrive on autonomy, responsibility, and purpose. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering everything from primary care and emergency response to chronic disease management and with a focus on men’s health outreach.
The clinic is based in Ampilatwatja, NT, standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (37.5 hr week), with participation in a rotating on-call roster outside clinic hours.
Based primarily in our community clinic, you'll also provide regular outreach to two nearby outstations (~40km away), with occasional school and home visits. This role requires a high degree of clinical responsibility, allowing you to utilise your full skill set across emergency response, chronic disease management, and remote outreach.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering high-quality primary care, emergency support, and chronic disease management
- Leading men’s health initiatives, preventative care programs within outreach services and community health promotion
- Responding to after-hours calls while on roster, including urgent assessments and emergency care
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and adhering to infection control standards
- Collaborating with Aboriginal Health Practitioners, GPs, and allied health staff to ensure patient-centred outcomes
- Contributing to a culturally safe and inclusive care model

This isn’t just another clinic role. You’ll take the lead in providing care in our community clinic and through outreach to remote outstations, with real autonomy and the chance to make decisions that directly shape community health outcomes.
About You
To be successful you’d need to be a Registered Nurse (AHPRA) with at least 5 years’ post-grad experience and preferably 12+ months in a busy metropolitan or regional ED. You’re practical, calm under pressure, and ready to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
New to remote? We encourage clinicians with minimum 5 years ED experience to consider a career in remote nursing. We will provide opportunities for upskilling.
You bring:
- Sound knowledge of Aboriginal health and cultural awareness
- Strong background in emergency and chronic disease management
- Familiarity with Communicare or similar electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Confidence working independently and as part of a small, tight team.
- Willingness to contribute to men’s health and wellbeing programs with experience
Essentials:
- A current Australian Manual Driver’s Licence (and the confidence to drive a manual 4WD on unsealed roads)
- Current Ochre Card (NT Working with Children Check)
- Advanced Life Support (ALS),
- Immunisation certification (AGV)
- IV Competency
Highly Regarded:
- Triage competency using the Australasian Triage Scale (ATS)
- iStat and QAAMS pharmacotherapy, and Paediatric Emergency Care qualifications
- REC (Remote Emergency Care) and MEC (Maternity Emergency Care) certifications
- Familiarity with Communicare or similar electronic medical record (EMR) system
